The Park Synagogue is seeking a dynamic Director of Membership and Engagement to join our team.

A prominent synagogue within the Conservative movement in America for over 150 years, Park is located on a large campus in Pepper Pike, OH. We are an inclusive and welcoming community. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Membership and Engagement will craft and implement a comprehensive strategy and lead the synagogue’s efforts to recruit new members, retain existing members; create and execute a wide range of synagogue programming focusing on adults and families of all ages, with focus on younger families. The strategy, goals and plan should be a collaborative effort, led by the Director and including input from all professional staff.
The Director will actively nurture a synagogue culture where members feel known and potential members can see their place in our community. The Director will play an important role in building synagogue community by cultivating relationships with members, clergy, and lay leaders to create relevant programming for young families and adults.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and manage all member recruitment and engagement activities starting with identifying potential members and engaging them, creating opportunities for new members to meet one another and build relationships with current members from the moment of onboarding forward.
• Help to ensure that new members feel welcomed into the community by facilitating “friend matching” and making meaningful connections with members. Continuously nurture relationships between new members and existing members
• Administrative tasks such as confirming and updating membership database for accuracy. Track all membership activities in database. Provide regular reports to staff, clergy, and lay leadership detailing new members, resignations, deaths, prospective members, and terminations.
• Work closely with Media Director to create professional, engaging, and compelling content across print, digital, and social media platforms to promote synagogue events, programs, initiatives, and new member outreach.
• Strategize membership engagement opportunities around Jewish holidays and life cycle events.
• Collaborate with professional staff and clergy to create inclusive programming across the age spectrum, with emphasis on creating and implementing programs/events for younger families.
• Partner with lay leaders to assess programming and engagement needs of adults and families and together, develop a comprehensive plan of implementation, growing and changing so programs happen organically and strategically.
• Help congregants with similar interests connect with each other to form relationships, attend synagogue events together, and/or to work together on programs, identifying and recommending congregants who would like to serve on committees and work on projects.
• Serve as the staff lead on the Membership Committee: attend all Membership Committee meetings, support the chair in their leadership of the committee, and keep senior staff updated on the committee’s activities and needs.
• Work collaboratively as part of synagogue’s professional team to create a holy Jewish community, to help our congregants discover Jewish meaning and purpose, and to create a collegial and friendly work environment.
• Have a visible and active role in the life of the synagogue and the Jewish community.
Experience/Qualifications/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree
• 2+ years of experience in Jewish programming, synagogue experience helpful.
• Strong familiarity with Jewish calendar and traditions.
• Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and ability to relate effectively with clergy, staff, lay leadership, volunteers, and diverse congregants.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing and developing tasks while following through on short- and long-term responsibilities.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism.
• Empathy and understanding when interacting with congregants, ensure that they feel valued for their ideas, passions, and skills.
• Thrives in a team environment but is a self-starter who thinks strategically and can produce and implement meticulous plans.
• Technology proficiency with databases and spreadsheets, Microsoft Office email and calendaring, and experience with various social media platforms. “Shulcloud” a plus.
• Excellent, proven project/event management skills.
• Must be warm, social, and engaging and can relate to a variety of age populations and demographics. Must be enthusiastic, high energy and have FUN!
• A willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as programming requires. Shabbat Services should be attended on a weekly basis.
